The new years here with a bang and I’m going to try posting more of my loved recipes this 2023. My first recipe for this year is going to be an absolute favorite Indian dessert or tea time item known as Sheera. Sheera is a halwa made with suji also known as semolina or rava. Its has a grainy sweet moist texture with a flavor of milk & ghee (clarified butter)
In this recipe, we’re giving the traditional Sheera, a twist with chocolate. This makes it delicious and the perfect Indian dessert for chocolate lovers

About this Sheera Recipe
The first time I tried it, I loved it !! The mere combination of chocolate and almonds coming together in a sheera is heaven
Its got a grainy texture with the right balance of sugar and the flavor of ghee infused with chocolate
The roasted nuts add a nice crunch to the overall sheera recipe
What is Sheera?
Sheera is a classic North Indian Sweet made with semolina (also known as Rava or Suji). It is combined with ghee (clarified butter), sugar, milk and dry fruits
Sheera is also known as Halwa in India (Suji ka Halwa)
The word Sheera is popularly used in Maharashtra, instead of calling it Suji ka Halwa

Ingredients to make Chocolate Sheera or Chocolate Halwa
Semolina
Popularly called as Suji or Rava. Semolina is the cream of wheat (farina). Semolina is available in 2 sizes – Fine Semolina & thick Semolina. Use what you prefer. I like using the thick semolina to make Suji ka halwa
Chocolate
Compound dark chocolate needs to be chopped fine and then added to the sheera. Using a combination of both, Chocolate & cocoa powder gives it a richer taste
Cocoa powder
Adding cocoa powder thats rich and chocolaty takes the sheera to the next level. So no skipping this one
Sugar
Regular granular sugar is required. The quantity of sugar depends on the level of sweetness you would like. It may also defer as per the sweetness of the chocolate you’ve used
Milk & Water
Suji needs a wet ingredients to help it soak and fluff up while cooking. Milk & water help to do so. Use good quality full-fat milk for better taste
Ghee
Ghee, also known as clarified butter is the main ingredient in a halwa recipe. It adds richness and taste and even keeps the halwa moist for a longer period of time. No missing this one if your looking to make an authentic Indian halwa
Dry fruits
Almonds need to be roasted, chopped and then added to the chocolate halwa. I’ve used only roasted almonds (with skin) but you may use any nut of your choice
