The Best Cinnamon Rolls Recipe
I bet you’ve fallen in love with how pretty these swirls look. It’s what makes simple buns look fancy
This bread is soft and delicious. Rolled with cinnamon powder and brown sugar, these buns have a caramelized sticky texture with a soft airy bread feel
If your having guest over for a tea party, this one’s surely going to be a stunner
How does cinnamon rolls taste?
Just delicious !! But in a more detailed explanation, they feel like good quality soft fluffy bread that’s rolled along with caramelized flavors and a hint of spice. Then topped with sugar syrup which yields a sweetish bread and eventually leads to a moist texture

I’ve heard a lot about cinnamon bread but it’s not very common in India yet. You do get it at a few places but it’s not common. A few local bakeries do have cinnamon rolls on their list but their version is regular dough seasoned with cinnamon powder, that’s it !!
Pinterest is loaded with delicious bread pictures and that’s where I spotted these Swirl bread images which had a glossy texture and golden brown swirls. I love food that looks delicious and tastes even better, and this one definitely rates high up there. The day I baked these at home, my neighbors knew something delicious was being prepared (that’s how aromatic your home gets)
I eventually started baking Cinnamon rolls every time I had guests home for chai and no one hated cinnamon rolls (surprisingly people who are not very fond of cinnamon as a spice, liked CINNAMON ROLLS !! Weird, but true ..)
So, I want you to try these out at least once. If not for the love of bread, at least for the love of an aromatic kitchen

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED TO MAKE THE BREAD
Sugar Syrup
All you health-conscious people, you may want to skip the sugar syrup that’s brushed onto the bread at the end. But I wouldn’t advise doing so. The sugar syrup is what makes the bread moist and sweet. Thus, it’s absolutely important !! No one likes dry bread. To make sugar syrup, combine sugar and water, boil until slightly thick. Cool and use as required
Brown Sugar & Cinnamon Mixture for cinnamon rolls
This is the mixture that develops simple bread into spiced rolls. In India, we get granular sugar easily, however, our granular sugar is super thick which is not very pleasing when used for baking. Thus, I like to powder brown sugar before using it in many of my recipes. This one for sure requires powdered brown sugar however if you live overseas and find superfine brown sugar easily, you do not have to take the trouble of powdering it. Just go ahead and use it !!
Cinnamon powder is the star ingredient in here. I’ve considered adding just 2 teaspoons of it in the brown sugar mix however if your a cinnamon fan, feel free to add more

Ingredients
To make the bread dough
- 400 grams all-purpose flour
- 180 ml warm milk
- 60 grams salted butter, room temperature
- 1 egg
- 4 tablespoon castor sugar
- 1 teaspoon Yeast (Instant/ Active dry yeast)
For the cinnamon rolls filling
- 90 grams soft brown sugar, powdered
- 70 grams unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
For the sugar syrup
- 50 grams granulated sugar
- 60 ml water
Instructions
For the sugar syrup
- Add the sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for about 3 to 4 mins and switch off the gas. Let cool
For the dough
- In a bowl combine the warm milk, sugar and yeast together. Let it sit untouched for 5 mins or until the mixture turns frothy
- Next, add the egg and butter to the mixture and whisk. Add the flour and combine all the ingredients together
- Now, knead this dough for 10-12 mins or until it forms a smooth and soft dough. Once done, let the dough proof in a greased bowl for about an hour or until double in size
- Once doubled in size, punch the dough back. Roll this dough on a surface sprinkled with flour (roll in a rectangular shape)
For the filling
- Combine the brown sugar and cinnamon powder together. Mix well. Keep the softened butter ready
To make the cinnamon rolls
- Using a palette knife apply a thick layer of butter over the rolled rectangular shaped dough. Apply a generous amount, use more butter if required
- Next sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture over the butter. Using your palms, gently pat the brown sugar mixture over the applied butter, making sure it sticks to the butter
- Carefully, roll this dough tightly and cling wrap it. Refrigerate for 10 mins. Then, using a thread cut into 2-inch rolls. Using a thread yields neater swirls as compared to cutting using a knife
- Place these on a 8-inch baking tray lined with parchment paper and let it proof for another 30 mins
- Bake these in a preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 18 to 20 mins or until golden brown
- Once baked, immedietely brush with the prepared sugar syrup. Enjoy !!
