If you’re a vegetarian, here are a few egg substitutes for baking recipes. These can also be used as an egg substitute for binding purposes. In India, a lot of people are into eggless recipes. And here’s why this post was important. Egg substitutes are essential when you’re looking to avoid eggs in a few baking recipes or simply because you’re looking to use other ingredients instead of an egg
I’ve been working on my blog for a long long time and one of the most common questions I get is what should I use instead of eggs?! In India, eggless recipes are the thing. Majority of the population prefer eating eggless variations as compared to the egg ones. That leads to a higher demand for eggless bakes as compared to with egg bakes

Some of my absolute favorite eggless recipes with egg substitutes

Egg Substitutes
What do you need to know?
Learn how to use the right substitute for a recipe. There are many recipes you may come across which contains eggs as an ingredient. If you plan to use one of these as a substitute, see what matches the recipe best. For example, if I’m baking a chicken pie and I want to omit the egg, I’ll add a substitute that would blend with it. Although banana is a well-known egg substitute, adding a banana as a substitute here would change the taste of the dish from savory to sweet. I don’t think banana for an egg substitute in a chicken pie would go well. Thus, lookout for a substitute that blends with your dish
Substitutes for eggs in cakes, cookies and more…
Here are a few egg substitutes for baking recipes
Flaxseed powder
This is one of my favorite egg substitutes. It is popularly used in making eggless cakes and cookies. All you need to do is combine 1 tablespoon of flaxseed powder with 3 tablespoons of warm water for every egg you replace. Mix well and combine with the batter. The flaxseed egg is a great substitute for eggs in brownies as well. If you do not get flaxseeds in powder form, buy the flaxseeds and powder it in a mixer
1 tablespoon flaxseed powder + 3 tbsps warm water = 1 egg

Condensed milk
Condensed milk is popularly used in cakes, cookies, and desserts as a substitute for eggs. However, condensed milk is sweet, so avoid using it in recipes that are already super sweet. To substitute an egg, use 4 tablespoons of condensed milk in the recipe
4 tbsps condensed milk = 1 egg
Yogurt
Another commonly used substitute is yogurt. Yogurt is popularly used in cakes and cupcakes as an eggless substitute. Instead of an egg, use 4 tablespoons of yogurt in the recipe. I like to use Greek yogurt in recipes but you can even use the regular one.
4 tbsps yogurt = 1 egg
Banana
Banana is the most popular substitute among all the mentioned substitutes. It can be used in cakes, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc as a substitute for an egg. Take a medium-sized banana and use half of it instead of an egg. Mash it up well before you add it to the batter. One of the best egg substitutes for a cake. Banana does leave a slight flavor in the cake so use it for recipes that you think would go well with banana
½ mashed banana = 1 egg

Egg replacement powder
I could rely on this alternative to eggs for any recipe. Commercial egg replacement powder is easily available online and at many stores. It can be used as a substitute in almost all the recipes which contain eggs. Combine 10 grams of egg replacement powder with 40 ml of warm water to replace an egg. Eggless cheesecakes turn out really nice with egg replacement powder
10 grams of egg replacement powder + 40 ml of warm water = 1 egg
Arrowroot powder
Arrowroot powder is a plant that is high in starch. The starch from the roots of this plant is extracted and sold in the form of powder. Arrowroot powder is healthy and is a good substitute for eggless cakes and bread. Mix 2 tablespoons of arrowroot powder with 2-3 tablespoons of water, mix well and use instead of an egg
2 tablespoon arrowroot powder + 2-3 tbsps water = 1 egg
Aquafaba
Aquafaba is popularly used as an egg white substitute in macarons, meringues, marshmallows, etc. It is the liquid left after boiling beans and legumes. You can even use the liquid that is found in canned beans available in the market. You can use Aquafaba is recipes that ask only for eggwhites. Use 3 tablespoons of aquafaba instead of 1 egg white in any recipe
3 tbsps aquafaba = 1 egg white

Notes for Baking without eggs
These were some of the common ingredients used instead of an egg. You will need to experiment and see which of these are most suitable for your recipe according to the texture and flavor you are looking for. There will be a slight change in the taste and texture when made with egg and without egg
