Snickerdoodle Cookies
If I have guests coming for chai, this is the cookie recipe that comes to mind. Their easy and so so yum. I’m not a cinnamon fan but this cookie screams CINNAMON. Surprisingly, I love it in here !! The spice just enhances the flavor and takes these cookies to the next level
These Snickerdoodle Cookies have the best texture. Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.
I’ve played with ingredients and worked this recipe out to the best of my ability and I’m so so happy with the outcome. Loving the balance of white & brown sugars in this one with a sugary cinnamon crust on the outside.

Why are Snickerdoodles called Snickerdoodles? (Snickerdoodle Cookies)
So, some say that the word Snickerdoodles is of German origin and some say Dutch origin. Snicker means schnecke in German and snekrad in Dutch both of which mean small, snail-like shape
However, many say it’s a nonsense word, with no particular meaning to it
What is the difference between a sugar cookie & Snickerdoodle?
Well !! There are 3 main differences. Snickerdoodle cookies contains cream of tartar which isn’t present in the old style sugar cookie. Also, it has a cracked surface, unlike the sugar cookie which is smooth. Sugar cookies are made up of a classic combination of butter, sugar, eggs & flour. Snickerdoodles are one step ahead, they are flavored with spices like cinnamon, some even like it with nutmeg

Let’s Talk Ingredients To Make Snickerdoodles (Snickerdoodle Cookies)
Butter
Firstly, salted butter is what I’ve used. If using unsalted, make sure to add a pinch of salt to the butter. Also, the butter should be at room temperature. Note, the most important step in any cookie recipe is to beat the butter and sugar well
Sugar
Also, using a combination of both, white & brown sugar adds great flavor to these Snickerdoodle Cookies. Moreover, brown sugar also enhances the color of these snickerdoodles. Secondly, use fine sugars for this recipe. However, if you’re in a country like India where thick granulated sugar is used, powder it before adding it to the batter. I stick on to white castor sugar also known as breakfast sugar and superfine brown sugar since it is easily available out here
Egg ( How to make it egg free of this Snickerdoodle Cookies)
First of all, this snickerdoodle cookies recipe contains egg. However, if you looking for an eggless version here’s what you can do. Combine 1 tablespoon of flaxseed powder or flaxseed meal with 2.5 tablespoons of water. Mix well and let it sit for 5 mins. Then, use this mixture in the cookie batter instead of 1 egg
However, I’m someone who sticks onto the egg version of this cookie
Cream of Tartar
This ingredient is what gives the cookie its classic flavor and texture, so no skipping it
Cinnamon
In conclusion, these Snickerdoodle cookies are spiced with cinnamon. As a result, they contain cinnamon in the batter as well as in the outer coating. I’ve come across some who even add nutmeg, you can do it as well. Also, at times you may find the quantity of cinnamon too much, but trust me, these cookies turn out just right
