What is Almond Flour

Almond flour is finely ground almond powder made from almonds that are blanched. Almonds are blanched by boiling them in water to remove its skin and then ground into a fine flour which can be used for cooking, baking, etc

Is Almond flour the same as Almond meal?

No. Their similar but not the same. Almond flour is a fine powder similar to the texture of regular flour. To make almond flour, blanched almonds (that’s almonds without skin) are ground into a powder
Almond meal is almonds that are ground coarse, just like the texture of breadcrumbs. Almond meal is available in two kinds, that’s almonds ground with the skin and almonds ground without the skin. However, both resemble breadcrumbs like texture, unlike almond flour which is superfine

What is almond flour used for?

Almond is a Keto friendly flour and there’s so much you could make with it. From bread, pasta’s, cakes, pancakes and much more
Use it like a substitute for regular flour in a number of recipes

Now that you know so much about almond flour its time to get started with the brownies

Ingredients needed to make Brownies

Almond flour

One of the most important ingredients for these brownies is Almond flour. If you do not get readymade almond flour. You can use blanched almonds by boiling it in water to remove its skin. Drying it well naturally or in the oven. And finally grinding it to a very fine consistency. You can try making almond flour home by following all these steps but I would recommend buying it readymade to get the best fine consistency of the flour

Eggs

Almond flour cakes are not as fluffy and light as compared to cakes made with regular flour. Adding eggs to a recipe gives the baked item and better texture and consistency. The cake is no more dense due to the added eggs

Vanilla Essence

Adding a dash of vanilla essence covers the whiff from the eggs if any

Melted Butter

Salted melted butter is preferable. If using unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt to this recipe. Melted butter gives the batter a looser texture making the brownies less dense as compared to the regular almond flour ones

Cocoa powder

Dark cocoa powder is the best for its rich and decadent taste. The better the quality of cocoa powder, the better will your brownies taste

Chocolate

Use good quality melted chocolate in this recipe. I love callebaut pure chocolate when it comes to making brownies. Dark chocolate is always preferable. We need some additional chocolate chips for the batter and over the top of the brownies

Baking powder

Traditionally, brownies do not contain baking powder. But we do add a little of it for better texture

Sugar

Castor sugar is best when it comes to baking. It gives cakes and brownies the right texture and thus I prefer it for most of the baking I do. Feel free to use healthy sugar substitutes like stevia

Pour this batter, in a 7-inch baking dish, lined with parchment paper. Bake the brownies for 40 mins to 45 mins at 170 degrees C. An inserted skewer should come out with few crumbs and slight stickiness, not much. That’s a sign of good fudgy brownies
